The work is clerical. The care is not optional.
Cairnvale does one thing: it helps families organise the documents that inheritance requires. This page explains what that means in practice and why families come back or refer others.

These are the points people mention when asked why they chose Cairnvale or referred someone to us.
Everything in writing
Every session and project ends with a written document you keep.
No imposed timeline
We work at the pace your circumstances allow. No reminders unless asked.
Scope clearly limited
We do not advise, draft, or interpret. Those limits are stated before work starts.
Originals returned
No documents are retained. Everything is returned in labelled folders after scanning.
Across multiple households
One named archivist coordinates across siblings or relatives in different locations.
Prices stated upfront
All three services have fixed published prices. No surprises after work begins.
Years spent on this particular kind of work
Cairnvale's principal archivist trained in library and information science and spent nine years managing documents in legal and estate contexts before starting the firm. The team has supported over 340 families across the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor since June 2019.
That experience matters because inheritance paperwork is not generic. Documents may be in several languages. Some are decades old. Some were produced by institutions that no longer exist under the same name. Knowing how to describe and index these items accurately — without misrepresenting what they say — takes practice.
A consistent method, applied to every collection
Documents are collected under a signed handling agreement. Each is scanned at 400 dpi, indexed by type, date, and issuing body, sleeved if fragile, and returned in labelled folders. The digital archive is encrypted. No copy is held after handover. The same steps apply whether the collection is forty pages or eight hundred.
The consistency matters because families are often handing over documents they cannot replace. The protocol exists to ensure that nothing is lost, misfiled, or returned in worse condition than it was collected.
You leave with a document, not a conversation
After a First Steps Records Session, you receive a written next-steps sheet naming the type of professional or agency that answers each outstanding question, and a referral directory. After a digitisation project, you receive a printed contents list alongside the encrypted archive. After a retainer year, you receive a written annual report on the collection.
These written outputs mean that if you need to pause work for several months, hand responsibility to another family member, or provide a summary to a lawyer or administrator, you have something to work from.
Three services, three published prices
The First Steps Records Session is RM 460. The Estate Papers Digitisation project is RM 1,620 for up to 800 pages. The Family Records Stewardship Retainer is RM 4,350 for twelve months. For digitisation collections larger than 800 pages, a written estimate is provided before work begins.
Prices are in Malaysian Ringgit and are stated before any commitment is made. There are no add-on charges for encrypted copies, fragile-item sleeving, or the referral directory included with session outputs.
What families have after working with us
After a records session, a family knows what documents they have, what is missing, and who to speak to about each outstanding matter. After a digitisation project, the household has a searchable digital archive and a printed index — something the family can share with a lawyer or administrator without handing over the originals.
After a retainer year, the family has a correspondence log, an updated finding aid, and condition notes for the full physical collection. Each output is designed to reduce the chance of retracing steps or losing track of what has already been done.
How this approach differs from the alternatives
A plain comparison. No names are used. The points reflect what families describe after trying other routes.

What makes Cairnvale's approach different
The "stop here" note at the end of every step
Every session and written output includes a brief note stating what has been covered and what the next step involves, so a family can decide honestly whether to continue or pause. No pressure either way.
Encrypted archive with per-household access
For the digitisation project and retainer, each named household receives its own encrypted copy. Access is not shared across families by default. Each copy is produced from the same scan but delivered separately.
Referral directory included with every session
The written output from a records session includes a directory of the types of professionals and agencies relevant to the outstanding questions identified. Published sources are cited; nothing is an endorsement.
Condition notes before and after handling
The physical condition of documents is recorded in writing before collection and again before return. If a document shows deterioration in the period it was held, it is noted. This is uncommon in general scanning services.
